Assignment 1

Re: Discussion Group 2 Too Determined To Turn Around Now I am too determined to turn around now. I have worked as an early childhood educator for 16 years. I’ve worked half of my education experience as a preschool teacher at a christian childcare for 8 years. I am currently working as pre kindergarten assistant for the school system. I’m a graduate from the University of Memphis. I received a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies with a concentration in Education. Teaching is my passion. It is what I was called to do. I don’t take for granted the call that I have to teach. I’ve enjoyed every teaching experience I’ve had with my students that I have come in contact with. Children inspire me to learn more about them. My interest is to use my master’s degree to teach early childhood courses to high school and/or college students. I’m challenged daily to become a more effective teacher. I enjoy watching children learn and grow. Most importantly I love that I play a vital role in their learning and growth. It amazes me to see my first group of students I taught 16 years ago are now in college and maturing into productive adults. The strength I bring to this online community is the passion, patience and consistency I have to be a better educator. I also have expertise in working with a diverse group of students. I look forward to what this education course will teach me to enhance my skills as a determined, productive and effective educator. I’m too determined to turn around now.

  1. Bertina,
You can feel your passion! I was explaining this at the staff meeting tonight. You have to WANT to do this. It has to be a passion or it is just a job. If it is just a job then the children will feel that.
I am inspired by what you are doing! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Catherine,
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. You are so right you most certainly have to want to do this because with the daily challenges we face passion for education has to keep us going.

    1. Bertina,
I told one of my staff today as I could tell she was "frustrated" with a child. I said, "every child has a story. You have to figure out what the theme of it is and try to reach in and add purpose to it." It takes ONE person in the day of the child to give that child inspiration and hope!

  4. Bertina Turner,

Your discussion has confirmed that i'm also headed in the right direction. Both of us have wanting to teach early childhood to high school students in common. Actually, I'm already teaching high school students principles of education. The next step is for me to receive my masters so that I can offer dual credit. There is also a pathway in which my students can receive their Early Childhood Certificate. The opportunities are endless in such a rewarding career.

I like your passion as well. We will get there!
